The short version: AutoSnore collects nothing. The app has no network code at all — there is no server, and nothing in it ever sends a request. Your night's recording stays on your phone.
Leaving a microphone on in your bedroom all night takes trust, so every part of it is spelled out below.
1. What we collect
Nothing.
AutoSnore has no user accounts and requires no registration. It bundles no third-party analytics, crash-reporting, or advertising SDKs, and uses no advertising identifier or device fingerprinting.
We do not, and cannot, obtain your name, email address, device identifiers, usage patterns, or any other personal information. The privacy manifest shipped with the app (PrivacyInfo.xcprivacy) declares an empty list for both data collection and tracking.
2. Where your recordings and data live
This is the most important section of this policy.
After you press Start, AutoSnore listens through the microphone for the night and encodes the audio into a compressed .m4a file inside the app's sandbox directory, stored locally on your phone. Alongside it we store the timestamp, loudness, and waveform of each detected snore, plus the start and end time of the night.
- None of it is ever uploaded to any server. We operate no server that could receive it — the app contains no outbound network code whatsoever.
- The app requests no iCloud or CloudKit entitlements, so recordings are not synced to iCloud Drive and do not travel between your devices.
- You can play back and delete any individual night from the Recordings tab, or erase everything at once from Options → Clear all data. Deleting removes the audio file and the statistics together.
- If you would rather not keep the audio at all, turn off Options → Save audio. The app will then only detect and count snores, writing no audio file for the night.
- If you have iCloud Backup turned on in Settings, sandbox files are included in your whole-device backup, just like any other app's data, and stored in your own iCloud account. That backup is encrypted by Apple, is used only to restore your own device, and we cannot access it. Whether to enable it is entirely your choice; if you would prefer recordings stay out of backups, disable iCloud Backup or turn off audio saving as above.
- Deleting the app removes every recording and record along with the sandbox, as iOS requires. Export anything important first.
3. Network connections
AutoSnore does not connect to the internet.
That is meant literally: the source contains no network requests at all — no URLSession, no HTTP calls, no third-party SDK phoning home. Put your phone in airplane mode and every feature still works exactly the same.
Snore detection uses Apple's built-in sound classification (the SoundAnalysis framework). The model ships with iOS and all computation happens on your device. There is no model to download and no audio to send away for analysis.
4. The permissions we ask for, and why
| Permission | Why | If you decline |
|---|---|---|
| Microphone | To detect and record snoring. This is the app's core function and there is no alternative. | Listening is unavailable. The app will offer a shortcut to Settings. |
| Notifications | Locally generated reminders: your morning report is ready, listening was interrupted, bedtime reminder. | Everything else works; you simply get no reminders. |
The microphone is opened only after you press Start and is released when you press Stop. While recording, iOS displays its orange microphone indicator on screen — a system-level signal no app can suppress, so you can always confirm for yourself whether the app is listening.
All notifications are local notifications generated on your device. They never pass through a push server, and we have no idea what you received or whether you opened it.
The app requests none of the following: contacts, photos, camera, location, calendar, health data (HealthKit), or motion data.
5. Sharing
The night detail, morning report, and weekly report screens each offer a share button. What gets shared is a plain-text summary — snore count, duration, score — and it contains no audio.
You initiate the share and you choose the destination (Messages, Notes, Mail, and so on). The text goes directly from your device to the app you picked; it does not pass through us. What happens to it afterwards is governed by that app's privacy policy, not this one.
6. Sharing and selling data
We do not share, sell, rent, or trade user data — because we never collect any, and have no technical means of doing so.
7. Children's privacy
Because the app collects no personal information whatsoever, it does not collect personal information from children, consistent with COPPA and comparable regulations.
8. Important: this is not a medical device
AutoSnore is not a medical device and cannot diagnose any condition.
It records how many sounds over the course of a night were classified as snoring, for your own reference and to let you watch a trend. It cannot detect sleep apnea or any other sleep disorder, and its output should never substitute for a clinician's judgement or drive a decision about seeking care or taking medication.
If you have symptoms beyond snoring — gasping awake, pauses in breathing, daytime sleepiness, morning headaches — please see a doctor.
9. Your rights
Because we hold none of your data, conventional requests to us for access, correction, export, or deletion do not apply. You retain sole and complete control:
- View — the Recordings and Insights tabs are the whole of it; nothing is hidden from you.
- Delete one night — swipe to delete in Recordings; the audio file goes with it.
- Delete everything — Options → Clear all data.
- Remove completely — delete the app, and iOS erases the sandbox with it.
10. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes materially, we will update the date at the top of this page and note it in the app's release notes.
