To help us investigate, please include your iOS version, iPhone model, app version, and the steps to reproduce the problem.

Read this one first

Don't lock the screen at bedtime.

This is the most common problem by far. iOS does not allow an app to keep classifying sound once the screen is locked — after locking, recording continues but snore counting stops, and you wake up to a night with audio but almost no counts.

Instead, press Start and simply leave the phone alone. The app prevents auto-lock, and the screen dims itself to its lowest brightness — barely noticeable in a dark room and not a meaningful drain. Place the phone face-down on your nightstand.

Frequently asked questions

How does it work?

Tap Start before bed and set the phone on your nightstand. Your iPhone listens through the microphone all night, uses the sound classifier built into iOS to decide which sounds are snoring, and records the time and loudness of each one. Stop it in the morning and you get a report for the night.

Should I plug the phone in?

Yes, we recommend it. Listening all night with the screen kept awake uses a fair amount of power, and most phones won't last until morning. Plugging in and placing the phone face-down on the nightstand is the reliable setup.

How close does the phone need to be?

The nightstand is fine — it does not need to be near your face. The microphone is sensitive enough, but don't put it in another room either. Within arm's reach of the bed works best. Face-down keeps the light out of your eyes.

Is my audio ever uploaded?

No, and it is technically impossible. The app has no network code at all — not a single request anywhere in the source. Detection uses the sound classifier built into iOS and runs entirely on your phone. You can use the app in airplane mode with no loss of function. See the privacy policy.

Can I avoid saving the audio?

Yes. Turn off Options → Save audio. The app will then only detect and count snores, writing no audio file, and your reports and statistics are produced as usual.

How much space do recordings use, and how do I delete them?

Current usage is shown directly under Options → Data. There are three ways to delete: swipe a single night away in Recordings, erase everything from Options → Clear all data, or delete the app entirely. Removing a single night deletes its audio file at the same time — nothing is left behind.

It detected nothing all night — or far too much

Adjust Options → Sensitivity. Higher values make the app more willing to classify a quiet sound as snoring; lower values record only the obvious ones. Change it a notch or two at a time and give it two or three nights — rooms, bedding, and phone placement make a real difference.

What if listening gets interrupted?

If another app takes the microphone — an incoming call, a recording app — listening stops and you get a notification. Nothing recorded so far is lost. Reopen the app to continue. Even if iOS terminates the app in the background, the next launch recovers that night's progress.

I declined the microphone permission by accident

Re-enable it under Settings → AutoSnore → Microphone in iOS. When permission is denied, the app's home screen shows a button that takes you straight there. The same applies to notifications.

What is the Snurk score?

A number from 0 to 100 combining how often and how loudly you snored — lower is better. It is only meaningful compared against your own other nights, to show a trend. It is not a medical measure and cannot be compared with anyone else's.

How do I switch languages?

Options → Language, effective immediately. Note that the app's name on your home screen and the system permission dialogs follow your system language, not this switch — iOS decides that text before the app has started running.

Will deleting the app erase my history?

Yes, irreversibly. iOS deletes an app's sandbox along with the app, including every recording and statistic. This app does not use iCloud sync, so there is no copy in the cloud. Export anything you care about with the share button before uninstalling.

Can it tell me whether I have sleep apnea?

No. AutoSnore is not a medical device. It can only tell you how many sounds in a night were classified as snoring. It cannot diagnose sleep apnea or any other condition. If you gasp awake, stop breathing, or feel sleepy during the day, please see a doctor — those questions need a proper sleep study.
